Born in 1897 at Epping, son of George (General Labourer) and Deliliah Fleming. 1901: With his family at 9, Norfolk Street West Ham. 1911: A Scholar and Part Time Paper Boy with his family at 2, Radley Lane, High Road South Woodford. In 1912 he became a Van Boy with the G.E.R. at Bishopsgate.

He enlisted at Shoreditch and was allocated to 3 Essex Regiment. This had been designated as the Harwich Garrison Force at the start of the war, and from 03-16 it was based in Felixstowe in Suffolk. He died there while serving with the Battalion from Pneumonia.
